Help Desk Assistant: Jim Borchert The Technology Department of LaGrange Highlands School District 106 oversees the District's information technology assets (computers, servers, network, phones, etc) in such a way that teachers and students can use technology as a tool to pursue their goal of education. Through training and support, the Technology Department strives to keep technology as a tool and not an obstacle in pursuing these goals. District 106 Technology Committee
The District 106 Technology Committee is comprised
of community members, teachers, and administrators. The purpose of
the committee is to provide input and guidance
to the technology department regarding technology
evaluation, purchasing, and implementation. A major
focus of the committee is making sure that ALL
teachers and students have adequate access and
training to be able to use technology as an effective
learning tool. The committee meeting schedule varies
with the projects they are working on. If you have

Servers: The Technology Department currently maintains twelve servers.
Seven servers run Novell
Netware 6.5 and provide file, print, proxy, and email (Groupwise) services.
Five Apple
xServes provide imaging and client software management, database, and web services.
The district web site has been created in-house and runs on an Apache web server
using MySQL and PHP.
Labs: District 106 currently has four computer labs. Each lab has about 27-30 iMac or eMac computers available for student use. Mrs. Mary Meske teaches in the Elementary computer lab, while Mrs. Janette Lanciloti teaches in the Middle School computer lab. Two additional labs are available for teachers to use with their students. The district also has 4 portable laptop carts containing 30 laptops each, which teachers can utilize in the context of their classrooms. Classrooms: Most classrooms have two computers available for the teacher and students to use. These machines are either iMacs or eMacs. Each classroom also has an ethernet phone which runs on the network infrastructure. Network: The physical network in the district's school building is made up of five Intermediate Data Frames (IDF's) and one Main Data Frame(MDF). Fiber optic cable runs between the MDF and IDF's carrying data at Gigabit speeds. A 100 megabit network cable connects the school computer, printer, or phone to the IDF. Recent Articles
