Mrs. Zavala, Mr. Yena, Mr. Anagnostopolous, and 7th-grade student Isaiah Nedelcu are attending a workshop and working hard to bring new STEM ideas back to Highlands. We are excited about the opportunity to expand our STEM classes in middle school.
5th grade students are participating in the Super Savers Program!
8th grade students toured the Illinois Holocaust Museum in Skokie today. They were engaged, thoughtful, and asked great questions while seeing the exhibits and after listening to a survivor's personal story.
The fifth grade students helped out in our school and community during Service Day. Some of the jobs included beautifying the parks, helping with book collection, visiting with nursing home residents, and much more!

Our 7th grade scientists finished off their lesson on buoyancy and density by designing and crafting aluminum boats to determine how much weight they can hold until they collapsed.
On May 3rd, 2019 under the leadership of Mr. Yena, 55 students traveled to Northern Illinois University to view over 200 STEM displays. The College of Engineering and Engineering Technology Senior Design Class showcased their innovative STEM projects. This was a great opportunity for our students to see what the future holds for them in STEM education!
The 8th graders did great work at Feed My Starving Children for their Service Day project. They packed 215 boxes of food which will feed 127 children in impoverished countries for the an entire year!
Congratulations to Ashlin Kwong for placing first in the ACT Science Category for 7th Grade! She and a host of her classmates participated in the ACT test on Saturday, February 9th. Great job to all!
