e-Learning: March 20, 2020 e-Learning Update
Published by Mr. Dearborn on Mar 20, 2020

Dear Highlands Staff and Families,

As our first week of e-Learning concludes, I would like to thank the teachers, staff, students, and families for everything that made this week a huge success. Your feedback was instrumental and assisted us with course-correction to help us continually improve the program. The feedback assisted us in designing even better learning experiences for our children. Thank you, everyone!

The health, safety, and well-being of our students, staff, and families continue to be a priority in District 106. As the information with the Coronavirus (COVID19) continues to evolve, and we head into Spring Break, I want to take a moment to reinforce best-practice preventative safety measures and share some additional resources with you.

What we know is COVID19 is a respiratory illness, and the best way to stay healthy is to practice good hygiene habits.

Here is a great visual from the CDC to put up in your home to help remind us how to stop the spread of germs.

Here is a link from the CDC with a video for handwashing to share with younger children.

This video shows children how to cover when you cough and sneeze.

Here is an additional parent resource to guide you on how to talk to your children about COVID19.

Some highlights from this article are:

  • Remain calm and reassuring.
  • Make yourself available.
  • Avoid blaming.
  • Monitor television viewing and social media.
  • Maintain a normal routine to the extent possible.
  • Be honest and accurate.
  • Review and model basic hygiene and healthy lifestyle practices for protection.

When Home becomes the Workplace

We are doing our best to make decisions and keep you informed in this fluid and fast-moving situation. Highlands and the LT Feeder Districts announced our closure through April 6, 2020. We will resume e-Learning on March 30, 2020, when we return from Spring Break. We will continue to send you updates as the information becomes available to us.

Warm regards,

Dr. Warke
